“For every company in the Philippines, it’s important to extend a helping hand and help youth,” said Romeo Mataac, who works in Accenture’s Finance and Accounting Department, explaining that youth hold the key for the success of the country.
Wishing to share some of the experience he gained by working for Accenture with those who are less fortunate, Mataac became a volunteer for the Skills to Succeed program supported by his company. He teaches resume-building, communication and other key career skills so young people who can’t afford to go to college can get better jobs.
“My favorite thing about rendering services is when students come up to me and say ‘Thank you, I learned a lot,’” he said.
His secret to breaking the ice and getting the students’ attention?
“I tell jokes,” he said. “That warms them up.”
